Where to Stay

Are you wanting the real Alaskan Experience? A cushy Hotel to relax in while taking in the sites? Something in between? Fairbanks has it all. Tourism is a big industry here in both winter and summer. I am including the links of some of our most popular places to stay while adventuring here.

Some Hotels:

The Princess Lodge – One of the main tourist hotels and tour adventure places in Fairbanks. They offer tours, guides and all kinds of fun paid things to do while staying here. If you aren’t quite sure where to go or what to do or don’t feel comfortable doing it without someone else, this would be a good place to stay.

Westmark Hotels – This hotel isn’t as “nice” as the princess hotels but it does offer a lot of the same things in regards to comfortable lodgings, paid guided tours and activities.

Some Living Spaces:

So for those of you that are coming to stay for a few months at a time, we have a few hotel/lodging type areas centered towards tourists or people visiting Alaska that have more time and might like more of a home like environment.

Wedgewood Resort – I am not sure if they are owned by the same people but both these places can expect the same things. Wedgewood is near a bird observatory and closer to downtown if you are trying to poke around and be close. Close to our main shopping hub on the east side of town.

Sophie Station – Sophie’s station is closer to the airport and down the street from local shopping centers on the west side of town. They both have areas for tourist information and a help desk to give advice for your trip around Alaska. Both of these places are off the bus line as well.

Do it yourself:

There are also a lot of air bnb’s here that give you the ability to live the rustic Alaskan Cabin life. If you are planning your own trip without the use of paid guides, I would recommend staying at one of these places. Not only do you get the whole package, but depending on where you stay, you will be able to see the northern lights by yourself, drive and see more of Alaska by yourself and be able to take as much time enjoying your trip!

You can also camp while you are here but I wouldn’t recommend doing this unless you know and understand the environment and types of things you would need to be successful.  You can check out my list of essential Hiking Equipment for Alaska or my Camping in Alaska Survival tips link if you are interested in this option as well.
